Is Online Tutoring Ideal for Kids?

Tutoring kids today can be done not only offline or face to face but also online in the comfort of one’s home. Online tutoring has been a popular trend in recent years and many Asian countries are embracing these particularly Japan and Korea.

According to Ambient Insight’s Worldwide English Language Learning Market Overview for 2011-2016, online teaching is growing at an explosive rate with Asia leading at 14.2 percent followed by Latin American at 13.8 percent per year. The reason for this rise in online learning, particularly focusing on the English language, is the fact that more students are moving online. Children these days are using the internet including apps to augment traditional schooling while many adults are also opting for online classes.

Reports have noted the growth of the online tutoring industry as parents find affordable and more convenient alternatives than the traditional in-person tutor. Various benefits can be gained by choosing this online route. For one thing, parents no longer have to travel back and forth to a tutoring center while the kids learn in a fun way as they use technology.

Not many are familiar about the tutoring software that can help parents in their goal of improving their child’s learning skills. Some even use games and animated characters to teach kids various types of skills. However, there are also online tutors or people who work online to tutor kids in other countries and their services are very affordable.

Japanese and Korean parents, for example, are known to tap on-demand tutoring services based in the Philippines to help their children learn English. They simply sign up for a specific service on the internet and the chosen company will then assign a teacher for the child. The tutor, for his part, is tasked to prepare a lesson plan and schedule for their tutoring session usually during weekdays. The hours, however, can be flexible and tutors are normally trained to adjust to their student’s schedule whenever possible.

The Benefit of Technology

Some parents and academic experts agree that the use of technology among kids has proven benefits to their learning skills. A field research conducted in three Texas schools found positive results among students who used the Reasoning Mind software. The study funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation noted that 71 percent of students showed engaged concentration and they were on-task 82 percent of the time when using the program. This only proved that use of the software can indeed increase a child’s educational engagement.

The researchers, however, said that while these software applications are helpful, they have their limits. As such, parents can still opt to hire human tutors online for that personal touch through the various on-demand tutoring services available on the internet today. They can choose to hire those in their own country or those from abroad but who are as competent and efficient as a teacher. The Studypool review here offers information on what students can gain from working with online tutors.

Parents only need to make sure they are hiring a qualified and expert tutor. Most of these qualified tutors have a teaching experience and go through a rigid screening process to ensure they are able to meet a child’s needs. They are also trained to detect a child’s learning style and adapt to it as they go along the tutoring sessions. You may request for a proof of credentials if you’ve been referred to a particular online tutor. It is also best to check the reputation of the online service you wish to tap and testimonials posted on their website.
