Most kids love to ride a bicycle, no doubt about it. And now that it’s summer, this is the best time to let them do this activity. Not only does biking promote their physical fitness because it is also a cheap and eco-friendly way to go around different places. It’s a great family bonding activity as well.
But first, ensure your kid’s safety. Before you let your child ride on his bike, parents should not forget to check the condition of the bicycle itself. Test the brakes and gears to ensure that they’re working. Check that the tires are properly inflated and do bring an air pump with you every time.
The helmet is a very important gear that you and your kid should wear each time. It is a life saving tool so even if your kid is just biking around your neighborhood, let him or her wear it.
Wearing a bright colored shirt regardless of the time of day is also strongly recommended. Research has shown that wearing a white shirt does not make a person visible on the road.
If you and your family plan to go biking on the road, always observe traffic rules. Stay on the ride side making sure you are following the flow of traffic just as you would when driving a car.
When riding, follow a straight line and when you do make turns, always signal to let the other car drivers know where you’re heading. Small kids less than 10 years of age, however, can ride on the sidewalk for their safety.
Summer is a wonderful time to be outdoors and biking is a popular and fun activity to do with your kids.
