If you have a baby on the way or have recently had a baby that will soon be on the move in your home, it’s time to start thinking about how you can make your house as safe as possible for your little one to start crawling and walking around.
To help you with this, here are three tips for making your living room safe for little ones.
Remove Items That Could Be An Immediate Danger
When you’re going to have little kids in your living room, the first thing that you should do is look for items that could cause immediate danger to them and then remove those items. This way, you won’t have to constantly be on the lookout for these dangers or redirecting your kids away from them.
Some of the most common dangers that you’ll want to consider removing from your living room include breakable items like glass or porcelain. While you can keep these items by just moving them up higher, you won’t want to have them low enough that your little ones can reach them. Additionally, if you have a coffee table that could be dangerous for kids, like one with sharp edges, you’ll want to consider replacing this with an oval coffee table that won’t gouge your children as they try to move around it.
Anchor Furniture To The Wall
As your little ones start moving around more, they’re going to look for things that they can hold onto while they cruise around the room. For many kids, bigger pieces of furniture can be great for helping them get from one place to another. However, if these bigger pieces of furniture aren’t secured to the wall, they could fall on your child and cause them to sustain major injuries.
To combat this, you’ll want to make sure that all furniture is anchored to the wall that it’s placed against. This way, even if your kids do try to climb on it, they won’t be able to move the furniture and pull it over on top of them.
Find Stylish Slipcovers
Despite how much you might try, kids are always going to make messes. Knowing this, you may want to consider covering some of your furniture with slipcovers to protect the fabric from the stains that often come with kids.
You can find some very stylish slipcovers to put over basically any couch or other piece of furniture so that spills and stains can more easily be cleaned up. You can just throw the slipcover in the washing machine and put it back on without having to just spot-clean the actual piece of furniture.
If you want to makes your living room a safe place for your little kids to spend time in, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn how this can best be done.
