"make sure to smile at them" --> Yup! It wouldn't do much good to spend time with the kids and be mad the whole time, would it? Great point. :)

I agree with all of the above. It is hard to balance work and parenting. I always feel guilty for not spending enough time with my son. We try to plan fun weekends together, but during the week it is sometimes too hectic.

We have decided to try and get our twin boys back to "basics". This includes simple chores including making beds, helping at dinnertime, etc, and just being more aware of the family dynamic. I sometimes begin to think that they may be getting it.

As parents, we need to spend time with our children more often. Our children would always want to be with us and we should not neglect their longings. Spending some family quality time together on weekends are great for bonding moments with them.

It is really refreshing to read this. I just put an article on my blog (www.buddy-notes.blogspot.com) about spending time, not money, with your kids. I do think that sometimes we focus on the "what" more then the "whom". We are molding our children's futures and must spend quality time with them to do that. Otherwise their peers do that and I think we all know how that turns out.

Besides spending time with the kids, make sure to smile at them - they need this more than you know! We stop doing this once they grow up beyond toddler years, but it can make your home (and family gatherings) the "place to be". I am doing a 30 day smiling experiment (See TheSmilingExperiment.com) and perhaps the most rewarding results have been with kids and family. I am now on Day 22.
